The National Capital Region Pain Initiative Program (NCRPI) annually provides a 2-3 days Integrating Osteopathic Manipulation Training to DoD clinicians (MD, DO, NPs, PAs, PT.) within NCR. The main purpose of this course was to teach physicians, primarily through Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, other methods of diagnosing and treating pain without prescribing opioids. This course provided participants a wide variety of highly effective, evidence-based tools for treating patients. Muscle testing, diagnosis and treatment of pain disorders without drugs or surgery are the focus of this course. This would allow providers to put together a treatment plan without opioids, solving common pain complaints without medication on treating the whole body and managing pain.

In combination with reading materials and hands-on learning, this course enhances the general competency and knowledge of physicians in terms of causes of pain and other ways of looking at treating pain using methods of Manipulative Medicine.
