What is Tele-Pain?

Tele-pain management utilizes MHS VideoConnect & other technology for treatment of pain and related conditions. Patients have individual initial visits and follow ups with members of Walter Reed Pain Team (Pain physician, PA, LCSW, PharmD, Integrative medicine physician & Nurse and Art Therapist) IN-HOME appointment available for patients via MHS Video Connect & Cisco Meeting Server for groups.

What does it offer?

Patients no longer have to travel for initial consults and follow ups or if there is limited access to pain care in the NCR. Holistic and integrative approaches including behavioral and physical modalities, as well as non-opioid medications are emphasized. Procedures will still be performed at a pain clinic when indicated within the NCR. This will increase services as well as save your patients significant travel time.

Tele-Pain Services available are (across military treatment facilities):

  1. CBT for Pain
  2. Medication Review/Education
  3. NCRPI Virtual Therapeutic Movement to include Movement & Meditation and Yoga series groups.
  4. Physical Modalities
  5. Art Therapy for Pain
  6. Integrative Modalities
  7. Follow ups from Pain Clinic Procedures

How do I refer to Tele-Pain? (ONLY FOR Military Treatment Facilities)

STEP 1: In GENESIS, go to Click Quick Orders to Request Referral 2.0
STEP 2: Select under Medical Service select Pain Medicine (may show as 0067C-Pain-TLMD).
STEP 3: Then under Reason: Type refer to TELE-PAIN  at Walter Reed and explain which service (ie. LBP, CBT for Pain, Movement & Meditation, or medication management).
STEP 4: Under comments put reason for referral put further details regarding diagnosis just make sure it says Tele-PAIN at Walter Reed.
